Contact Explore and discover Tours to discuss a tailor-made extended tour for your church group.

Below are examples of an extended tour to York and also a tour around England in the footsteps of John Wesley.

York

Day one

We travel to York making a stop in Lutterworth to see the church where John Wycliffe was Rector and to see the memorial to him in the town centre.  After lunch there will be a walking tour of the wonderful city of York to discover its history and places of general interest and also it's place in Christian history. Hear how the Romans,  the Vikings, chocolate and the railways all influenced the development of York.

Accomodation for three nights in a York hotel

Day two

We begin day two with a tour of York Minster.  I am an  accredited York Minster Guide so can show you inside.  Minster was the Anglo Saxon title given to missionary churches and the first York Minster was built by King Edwin of Northumbria in 627AD after his conversion.  The present Minster is one of the great Gothic cathedrals of the world. Having survived 3 fires it is also a magnificent symbol of the resilience and permanence of the Christian faith.

In the afternoon there is free time to discover more of York or the chance to find out more about the minster by taking a tour of the Bedern Glaziers Studio glaziers to see conservators at work on some of the Minster's finest stained glass. York Minster has the largest collection of medieval stained glass in England. Alternatively take a tour of the stoneyard to learn about how cathedrals were built and how they are maintained today.  This tour includes a ride up the east front in the builder's hoist to take a close look at the progress of the restoration. These are both unique tours only available at this cathedral.

Day three

Today we take a lovely scenic drive through the Yorkshire Dales to visit Bolton Abbey.  Set in dramatic scenery the quire of the abbey became a ruin at the reformation but the nave became and still is a parish church.

Day Four

We visit Harrogate and then travel back home.

Tailor-made round England John Wesley tour for Methodist Groups.

Visit the Old Rectory in Epworth where John Wesley was born and Oxford where he studied and formed the Holy Club. Visit Bristol where he preached for the first time in the open air and had the New Room built which was the first Methodist building in the world. We will also go to London and see John Wesley's House and Wesley's Chapel and a walk looking at other Wesley sites in London can also be included.  On a longer tour it is possible to include other sites such as Gwennap Pit in Cornwall where Wesley preached on 18 occasions.
